The program at Niigata University is intended for Japanese IEP students completing their exchange semester abroad. IEP students
Students will work closely with Japanese IEP Director, Dr. Manabu Takasawa (email@example.com), and the URI Office of International Education in order to be admitted as an exchange student at a partner institution in Japan and prepare for their time abroad.
LOCATIONNiigata City has a popultion of more than 800,00 and is the only govenrment-ordinance-designated city in the Japan Sea Coast of Japan's main island Honshu. As the largest city on the Japan Sea Coast, Niigata City functions as a strategic hub for domestic and international land, sea, and air transport.
Although downtown Niigata City has all the conveniences of a major city, it alsos has superb access to plances abounding in nature. The city and its surrounding areas are home to numerous historic hot spring towns and ski resorts which are popular destinations for Japanese and foreign alike. People enjoy hiling and birdwatching in Niigata City's beautiful mountains and wetlands.

URI APPLICATION PROCESSURI students will have two separate applications to complete, an application with URI as well as an application with the host exchange partner university. Please contact your URI Program Sponsor to learn about the host university's application requirements and timeline. Below outlines the application deadlines for the mandatory URI application. Students must first complete the URIAbroad 'Pre-Decision Phase' prior to sending any application materials to the host exchange program.
URI Eligibility Requirements:
- Be in good social standing
- Subject to the URI Student Policies & IEP Year Abroad Program Policies
- All URI students participating on one of the University's direct exchange programs must be formally enrolled within the equivalent of a minimum of 12 US credits (24 ECTS credits) per semester to maintain their full-time student matriculation status.
