Okayama University
Exchange Program Okayama (EPOK) is a program organized by Okayama University between its EPOK partner universities that offers students an opportunity to study in Japan. Through this program, EPOK encourages students to learn and understand Japanese culture, customs and social backgrounds. Classes are offered in English and Japanese. Okayama University and EPOK provides students the ideal setting for studying abroad; one that nurtures education and learning while at the same time offers students an environment for freedom, growth and experience.

Japanese IEP and other students completing the overseas component of IEP exchange program will work closely with Japanese IEP Director, Dr. Manabu Takasawa (takasawa@uri.edu), and the URI Office of International Education in order to be admitted as an exchange student at a partner institution in Japan and prepare for their time abroad.

ACADEMICS & ACCOMMODATIONS

Exchange students can choose classes from the ones offered by the faculty they belong to but they are required to obtain the lecturer’s permission to take the course before registration. Most courses are taught in Japanese. Exchange student without the required level of Japanese language proficiency may not be allowed to register. In addition, there are some classes have limited enrollment, such as experiments or laboratory work, and are open only to regular students. Japanese language courses are offered by the Language Education Center and open to all international students at Okayama University. Furthermore, the Center for Global Partnerships and Education offers a course to introduce Japanese culture and experiences called “Study of Japan” for undergraduate exchange students.

All EPOK students are accommodated at the Okayama University Shared House. This residence is conveniently located just five minutes from the Tsushima Campus of Okayama University (main campus). EPOK students share a unit with a Japanese student and two other international students. School library, computer laboratories, shops, restaurants and various forms of entertainment are all easily accessible.
