The University of Rhode Island’s Chinese Flagship Immersion Program is an 8-week, residential Mandarin Chinese immersion program for students committed to an intensive, experiential, proficiency-based learning experience. The 2019 program offers two levels of instruction: one designed for first-year Flagship students, who have completed CHN 112H or its equivalent, or for adults and students from any institution (matriculating or non-matriculating) who have a Novice High/Intermediate Low level of proficiency interested in an immersive language learning experience; and one designed for students at the Advanced level who may be pursuing certification to teach Chinese as a world language in K-12.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

CHN 113H/114H: Graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate and graduate students at URI or other institutions who have taken a minimum of one year of college-level Chinese or equivalent, and whose proficiency is at the Novice High or Intermediate Low level, are encouraged to apply. Priority consideration is granted to students currently enrolled in or admitted to any Chinese Flagship Program. One must not be a currently matriculated student to apply.

CHN 485/486: Current undergraduate and graduate students at URI or other institutions, as well as non-matriculating students, who are Advanced proficiency level and seeking RI teacher certification in Chinese as a World Language (B.A. in Secondary Education and Chinese or MA/TCP) and/or who wish to participate in an Advanced-level immersion experience.
