China Banner Winter J Term

This program will provide first- and the second year Chinese language students with an immersive experience to the country whose language they are studying. Visiting Beijing, the political center and Shanghai the economic center will allow students to experience the context of their language studies, opportunity to explore the culture, society, environment and communicate with their language skills. In addition, students will feel as part of a learning community with other Chinese language students and begin to feel comfortable in the foreign environment. Experiencing living in China is the highlight students' Chinese study.

In Shanghai, we will study in East China Normal University for two weeks.  With campuses in Minhang and Putuo District totaling an area of over 220 hectares, East China Normal University has long been reputed as a "Garden University" for its beautiful campus scenery.  

 

ACADEMICS

Students will have the option to earn between 1 and 3 URI credits for CHN 497: Directed Study. 

Coursework will be supplemented with excursions including exploring the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, the Bund, Oriental Pearl and the West Lake in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou. Culture activities include Chinese calligraphy, Taichi and Chinese painting.

 

ACCOMMODATIONS

Students will stay in double occupancy dormitories in Chinese-only supportive living/learning community. Breakfast will be provided.
